ADO ladies Beker (Cup) Final win

ADO Ladies complete the double!

On Sunday afternoon in a sweltering hot Kyocera stadium, ADO Den Haag ladies took on the ladies from VVV Venlo in the KNVB Beker (Cup) final.

ADO took control of the first half, their fitness in the heat proving an advantage even in the early stages. The first goal came in the sixteenth minute when Lisanne Grimberg put the goal into the back of the net, 1-0.

The home side doubled their advantage when Renate Jansen struck a sweet volley into the back in the twenty first minute, 2-0.

The weather was so hot that on the half hour the referee called a halt to the match to allow the players to take on some refreshments, a wise decision.

After the short pause Venlo began to push forward and had several shots and earned a few corners, some good defending and great goal keeping kept the visitors at bay. In injury time during the first half Venlo got a vital goal back at the perfect time. The ball bounced in front of Jeslynn Kuijpers who smashed the ball home, 2-1.

In the second half, the opening period was pretty even until in the fifty fifth minute ADO broke away from a midfield tussle. The ball to Grimberg was despatched with aplomb as ADO increased their lead, 3-1.

The sixty sixth minute saw the game decided. Firstly Venlo got back into the game thanks to another goal by Kuijpers, to make it 3-2. Within twenty seconds of the restart ADO charged down field and Jill Wilmot got ADO’s fourth and got the two goal cushion back, 4-2.

The instant response from ADO virtually killed off any hopes that Venlo had, they visibly looked shell shocked, from that moment ADO grew in strength as the visitors wilted in the heat. ADO had several more opportunities to score before their fifth and final goal was put away by Eshly Bakker in the eighty third minute, 5-2.

The final whistle blew and it was only a shame that 2,000 fans had come to stadium to witness the cup win. There was a good sized contingent from Venlo who made a lot of noise and was gracious in defeat, applauding their own team before acknowledging the winners, good sportsmanship.

The presentation was made and the players celebrated with style performing for the cameras, screaming, singing and dancing. Great to witness this bit of history as ADO Den Haag ladies won the double. Now all they have to do is follow it up with a champions league win next season.
