On Friday night the ADO Den Haag ladies travelled away to FC Utrecht. There was some good travelling support for ADO in the crowd and they witnessed a very good performance.
The early exchanges were pretty much even. ADO trying to play their way through the midfield and Utrecht playing the long ball end to end. As the game settled, ADO’s skill and prowess began to show through. The biggest threat coming from Renate Jansen, who had the speed to take on and beat any defender Utrecht placed in front of her. Even some Utrecht fans directly behind me were saying how fast she was.
ADO got the opening goal in the twenty eighth minute. Jansen got the ball in the left hand corner, the defenders stood off allowing her to move inside, side stepping a defender she unleashed a shot 20m from goal. The power and angle took the ball directly over the Utrecht keepers head and into the roof of the net, stunning goal, 0-1.
The rest of the first half saw ADO being the dominant side but were unable to put a finishing touch to their moves. Utrecht had a couple of chances towards the end of the half, only once really testing Barbara Lorsheijd in ADO’s goal.
The second half began with Utrecht powering forward and almost getting on level terms after forty five seconds, a fierce shot that was well saved by the keeper. As the half progressed ADO gained a grip on the game that they would not let go.
In the fifty sixth minute ADO were awarded a free kick around 22m from the goal. Jansen whipped the ball over the wall and into the back of the net passed an outstretched keeper, a strike of excellence and precision, 0-2.
In the sixty third minute ADO killed the game off. A cross in from the left saw the ball bounce around as players from both sides tried to get it under control. The ball eventuall rolled loose and into the path of Shelia van den Bulk who fired the ball into the net. The joy on her face as she raced towards the bench to celebrate was a picture of pure delight, 0-3.
In the final minutes of the game Utrecht tried to grab a consolation goal and pushed ADO hard. They hit the woodwork and forced Lorsheijd into coming for several crosses and blocking shots that were aimed straight at her.
The final whistle blew and ADO deserved their victory. They showed their fight and strength throughout the game, There will not be many teams who can keep up with them this season.
