Tonight ADO ladies played a friendly against the mens team GDA (B). The game was much tougher than ADO’s cup match last Saturday. GDA started well and Barbara Lorsheyd in the ADO goal pulled off two good saves and bravely dived at the feet of their forwards twice.
ADO gained more and more possession and eventually it paid off, Jessie van Leeuwen getting her name on the score sheet after scoring from inside the box.
ADO continued to attack and force the midfield of GDA to basically become extra defenders. The rest of the first half saw ADO’s goal under no real real threat at all.
For the first time this season, during the second half I was not using the camera and could actually watch the game properly. I was very impressed. Despite a few changes the movement and drive of the ADO ladies just kept on pushing the men of GDA backwards. The tough tackling ladies did not hold back in their challenges. They were not dirty, but they were firm and aggressive, not giving many free kicks away. They certainkly were bossing the second half for long periods.
GDA got a goal back after what looked like a defensive mix up. The ladies were visibly unimpressed at letting themselves down as the men celebrated the goal.
More changes from ADO saw Yvette van der Veen come on to the pitch. Her lightning speed, skill and tenacity scared the GDA backline so much that they ended up doubling up on her as she marauded down the right wing.
As the clock ticked down chances became fewer and fewer until the final minute when ADO gave away a penalty. The spot kick was placed well into the corner and after another thirty seconds of play the final whislte blew.
ADO ladies may have lost 2-1, but the extra work out did them well I think as they prepare for the match this coming Friday night against their biggest Dutch rivals FC Twente.
Woman of the Match: Kitty Susan, a real powerful peformance.
