Standard de Liege too strong for ADO ladies

Standard Leige 3 v 0 ADO ladies

On Saturday ADO ladies faced their toughest test of this first BeNe league season, a trip to undefeated Standard Liege of Belgium.

The game was an eye opener for ADO. The home side was strong, skillful and quick. Their passing was top quality and their join up play was amazing to watch. There are no excuses to be made. ADO tried hard in the game, they fought and chased for everything. It was one of those days that was not going to go the way of the visitors.

Standard took control from the off and yet it was ADO who came closest to opening the scoring. From a corner by Jansen the ball was headed goal bound by Reichardt, there was a frantic scramble as shots rebounded around the area, but the ball would not go in.

Despite being under great pressure ADO managed to hold off the threat of Standard until the fortieth minute. Gone were the attempts to by pass the ADO defence with cunning football, the hosts resorted to a long ball tactic which paid dividends as Audrey Dumoustier found some space for herself to slot the ball home, 1-0.

The second half saw Standard go at ADO even more. Their flowing play was a joy to watch. Not only were they skillful but they were also bigger and stronger than the ADO ladies. I would guess that the average age of ADO’s team would be 21, whereas Standards maybe 24 or 25, the experience and extra guile showed as they began to force ADO into making errors and losing possession in dangerous areas.

ADO’s midfield and defence were working tirelessly to keep Standard at bay; meanwhile Ado’s forwards were targeted as soon as the ball was played up to them. The Standard defenders taking no prisoners in their challenges, I believe the referee was far to lenient on the home side yet punished ADO far too often for lesser fouls.

In the sixty first minute Standard got themselves clear of ADO, A thumping shot from Vanity Lewerissa beating Lorsheyd who stood no chance of stopping it, 2-0.

It was game over in the seventy second minute after Maud Coutereels hit a screamer of a shot from 30 metres out which gave ADO’s keeper absolutely no chance, stunning strike, 3-0.

The game settled down a bit after the third goal. ADO had chances, Vrieling, Jansen and Paola van der Veen going close, but it wasn’t to be.

At the final whistle, in all honesty, Standard had proven why they are top of the BeNe league and are favourites to win it. ADO need not be down hearted, they gave it all they got, but they were up against a superior side that is currently in great form. It is an experience ADO will learn from and it will make them stronger in the future. ADO is a young side and if they stay together for a few years, they will easily do to other what Standard did to them. ADO’s young team have already done it to many other previously, now to move up a step. The best team won, the result was fair.

Woman of the match: Sheila van den Bulk: A fighter to the end, real energy and determination.

Attendance: 130

ADO ladies beat Beerschot 1-0

ADO Ladies 1 v 0 Beerschot

On Friday night ADO ladies took on Beerschot of Belgium in the BeNe league top division. After not picking up three points from the last two games the ADO ladies were looking forward to getting back in action against the side currently at the bottom of the league table and who had conceded more goals than anybody else this campaign. A win was vital if ADO were to still have any serious chance of challenging for the title. If other results went ADO’s way they could be in second place.

The match was in the end a frustrating affair. The weather was cold and windy, the crowd small and the match did not live up top much. It was a game dominated by ADO for eight seven minutes. They controlled the play and the tempo, unfortunately for some reason they were not launching their usual amount of attacks. I think I know the reason for this. It is amazing how you do not see how much a player influences the team. Yet team captain Lucienne Reichardt was out injured. The loss of the leader showed as far too many times ADO wasted time passing the ball around the defence and back to the keeper. There was a drive missing, proving Reichardt is indeed a true leader as she was certainly missed.

Jansen who was made the captain for the game produced some silky skills that got her away from her markers time and time again.

ADO had chances but the game was dull. ADO was by far the better team. Their passing was better and more accurate. The interplay was smooth but on Friday they suffered the same as the men’s team so often do, missing the final ball to kill off the opposition.

Changes were made at half time by ADO yet the play stayed the same. Neither goal keeper was called into any major action. Moudou and Jansen kept pushing forward. The defence was solid as a rock, v/d Bulk, Worm, Nooij and Yvette van der Veen fought so hard to prevent any forward play by Beerschot.

Beerschot mostly resorted to playing the long ball forward; this was easy for ADO’s strong backline to deal with.

ADO got the vital goal in the sixtieth minute, the ball finding its way to Renate Jansen from a pass by Beerensteyn; Jansen calmly took the ball clear of the keeper and defenders to place the ball into the back of the net, 1-0.

34-VBEER-GOALW

ADO stayed in command until the final minutes of the game when they almost threw the three points away. Lorsheyd was called upon to make a great save in the dying seconds. Beerschot had a shot that missed the post by millimeters. ADO almost even scored an own goal when a cross was sliced over the crossbar. The final moments were real heart in mouth, and the relief was clear when the referee blew for full time.

It was a game ADO clearly deserved to win, yet the goal difference could have been greatly improved. Maybe it was the lack of points from the previous two games that had effected them, or was it just the missing captain? But three points is three points, so all is now set for next Saturday’s huge match in Belgium when ADO ladies travel to league leaders and favourites for the title Standard Liege.

Woman of the match: Renate Jansen took the captains armband and showed great skills throughout, plus the vital goal.
