ADO ladies win in Brussels
ADO ladies completed the double over Anderlecht in Brussels on Saturday afternoon; putting on a solid performance that deserved the three points.
As with most of the Belgian sides, Anderlecht tried early on to resort to bullying tactics to try and intimidate their visitors. The only problem for them was that the ADO ladies had not read the script and fought fire with fire. Top hit lady was Paola van der Veen, She may be young and not as big as her opponents, but wow after accepting a few hits herself, and she turned the tables and was knocking the Anderlecht players all over the place. Her example was also followed by Marelle Worm, Sheila van den Bulk, Lucienne Reichardt and Sylvia Nooij. After fifteen minutes the home side stopped trying to use force to beat ADO as they were onto a losing battle.
ADO got the break through in the forty second minute. A free-kick taken by Paola van der Veen was met by the stooping head of Worm and the ball hit the back of the net with force, 0-1.
The second half saw Reichardt, team captain really take over the midfield, never giving her opponents chance to rest on the ball. She was constantly screaming out instructions and motivation to her team mates. Her presence was inspiring and drove the ADO ladies on to dominate the home side.
Anderlecht had a few near chances to get on level terms and only once was Lorsheyd called upon into any real action as she bravely dived at the feet of an attacker to smother the ball only to be injured in the process, but after treatment she was ok to continue.
ADO then got the clinching goal after Lineth Beerensteyn was fouled inside the penalty box after yet again tormenting the Anderlecht defence. Sheila van den Bulk took the penalty and scored with ease sending the keeper the wrong way, 0-2.
ADO continued to play keep ball until the final whistle. Three points in the bag and with other results going their way on the Friday night means ADO are back in contention to win the Dutch part of the BeNe league.
Woman of the match: Lucienne Reichardt, a true captain’s performance, driven and committed.
