ADO ladies suffer heavy defeat
On Friday night ADO ladies took on FC Twente in the Kyocera stadium. This game was a must win for the home side if they wanted to keep any realistic chances of winning the Dutch league alive. ADO ladies had already won in Enschede earlier this season thanks to a stunning strike from Renate Jansen in the closing stages to earn a deserved 1-2 win, so there was nothing to fear for the ADO ladies.
The game saw Twente take total revenge for their home defeat to ADO. A strong side, when even down to ten players produced football that caused ADO all sorts of problems. ADO were also not at their best, far too many individual errors cost them this game.
I don’t know what it is about the teams of ADO Den Haag that when faced with a team who are a man down, all goes wrong. Men’s team has done it a few times this season and now the ladies. I was talking with a fan after the game who could not believe it always happens to ADO.
The game kicked off almost fifteen minutes late when the officials realized they had forgotten their flags, should have been a sign of things to come. Twente took the lead in the eighth minute through Ellen Jansen. More goals could have followed quickly as ADO’s players seemed to be unable to find each other with a pass.
The game came to life in the dying minutes of the first half. Firstly Yvette van der Veen was caught with a solid kick that left her in agony on the floor; after some treatment she was carried off the field of play.
As ADO waited to bring on Marleen Joore a long ball was played from inside the ADO half for Beerensteyn to chase, she got ahead of the last defender who pulled her to the ground, which resulted in Siri Worm getting a red card for a professional foul.
Despite the one player advantage ADO ladies just could not get going, nothing was going right for them in all areas of the pitch. Sherida Spitse scored from the penalty spot to make it 0-2 in the forty seventh minute. Twente were soon 0-4 up with goals from Jill Roord in the sixty third minute and six minutes later a second goal for Ellen Jansen.
ADO managed to pull a goal back in the seventy fifth minute after ADO was awarded a penalty after Renate Jansen was push in the penalty area. Sheila van den Bulk dispatched the spot kick with ease, 1-4.
With three minute remaining things went from bad to worse when Joore put the ball into her own goal, 1-5.
It was a bad night for the ladies. Not only the heavy defeat, but it looks as though they need a miracle to recapture the title. Every team has a bad night and Friday night ws that night for our ladies. The defeat hurt and it showed in the players as they left the pitch.
Woman of the match: Kitty Susan, strong midfield performance, never gave up.
