Saturday afternoon the ADO ladies team travel to Amsterdam in the 1/8 finals of the KNVB Beker (Cup). ADO ladies will be attempting to win the trophy for the third year in row. They face sc Buitenveldert, kick-off 14.30.

ADO ladies new signing

ADO ladies have signed a great new defender. Helene Heemskerk (22) has joined ADO from the now bankrupt club FC Urecht ladies.

Heemskerk has represented the national team at all levels and has been described as an ambitious, persistant, reliable athlete.

ADO ladies head coach Sarina Wiegman is very positive about the arrival of Heemskerk. “Helene is no stranger to ADO Den Haag, after the bankruptcy of FC Utrecht we invited her to train with us. She made a very positive impression, she has huge drive, is explosive and defensively strong.”

Heemskerk said “Following the sad news of the bankruptcy of FC Utrecht women, I still had the ambition to play at the BeNe league level. In the past two weeks I have trained with ADO Den Haag and was told that Sarina would like to add me to the squad. ADO Den Haag are always near to the top of the league and are very strong in the cup. So in my eyes it is one step higher to a good club. Personally, I look forward to a new challenge and hope my qualities will be a good addition to the team.”

Bad news for Mandy van Dijk

One of ADO ladies brightest young talents Mandy van Dijk has unfortunately received some bad news yesterday: I was hoping eor some good news, unfortunately, the result of the tests show a torn ligament and a torn meniscus. Altogether nine months of no football.”.

This is a real blow to her young career and will be a big miss for the team. Everybody wishes Mandy a speedy and full recovery.

Two ADO ladies in final Dutch squad

As reported earlier, Three of the ADO ladies team were in the preliminary squad for a World cup qualifier. Now the head coach Roger Reijners has included ADO ladies Kim Dolstra and Barbara Lorsheyd in his final squad for the World Cup qualifier against Belgium on Wednesday. ADO Den Haag striker, Renate Jansen unfortunately had to withdraw due to illness.

The match against Belgium is the fifth game of qualifying for the 2015 World Championships in Canada and takes place at the home of PEC Zwolle. Kickoff is at 19:00 . Both teams have so far collected nine points from four matches.

Good luck to both our ladies and great that their play is being recognised at the higest level.

Zuiderpark ticketbooths update

It’s gonna happen! The ADO ticketbooths will soon be moved

Finally the 88 year old  ADO Den Haag ticketbooths will leave their location in the Zuiderpark. Managing director Hans Lamertink from the Lamertink Construction company let it be known that the planning is in place to finally start the work needed to move the ticketbooths.

Due to the fact that one of the ticketbooths was still in use to house the electric fusebox panel  for the old Zuiderpark stadium complex, the elctric could not be switched off. Now that the old stadium is gone, the extric has now been switched off and the ticketbooths made free of  cable and wires.

Sometime in the middle of February the work will start by digging a trench around the ticketbooths and a new concrete foundation will be laid with iron beams placed underneath the buildings. Once the concrete has hardened (that will take aprox 6 to 8 weeks) the ticketbooths  will be lifted out of their present position and be moved to an temporary location where they will be refurbished.

The Hague city council will not allow them to be placed at the new Forepark location before this Summers World Cup hockey tournament. Once the WC hockey is over they will be  moved to their new home where they will keep ADO History alive.

We will keep you posted and once again well done to ADOfans.nl for all the work they are doing to keep this bit of ADO history for all to see.

ADO’s next fixture

This coming Friday night ADO Den Haag travel to high flying Vitesse Arnhem.

This will be the first game for new temporary manager Henk Fraser. He faces the challenge of motivating the ADO squad into action after Tuesday’s dismal, lack lustre display at home to Heracles. He certainly has the backing of the supporters as the fight now truly begins to fend off relegation.

Manager Steijn leaves ADO

It has been announced that Maurice Steijn has been replaced by assistant coach Henk Fraser with immediate effect. The continuing poor results saw the inevitable departure of the clubs manager.

ADO Den Haag deeply regrets the parting of a real clubman. Maurice Steijn has worked hard in recent years to help ADO. After the dramatic defeat against Heracles Almelo confidence was drained and the club feel the tide could not be turned.

Steijn had been at the club in many roles, from player, to youth coach and worked his way into the first team. First as an assistant, where he held the duties of the dismissed Raymond Atteveld and kept the club in the Eredivisie. Under John van den Brom, he took a step back to the assistant position the following year, which began with European football. The he became club manager. The past two years he has performed particularly well with a young squad last season ending with ADO finishing nicely in ninth place.

Here is oe of Maurice Steijns memorable moments. His stunning free-kick against Barcelona back in his playing days.
