ADO ladies took on Belgian side Oud-Heverlee Leuven (OHL) at the Kyocera stadium on Friday night and put on a fantastic footballing display. ADO totally outplayed, outclassed and outmuscled the ladies of OHL. It has been a very long time since I witnessed such a one side game of football.
Straight from the kick-off is was easy to see ADO were on a mission. They hunted down the OHL players, they chased every long ball, won every fifty fifty challenge. The home side harassed and chased everything, not allowing the Belgians to have the ball completely under control.
ADO were in an attacking mood. Renate Jansen down the left wing and Lineth Beerensteyn down the right. Tula de Wit and Tessa Oudejans had complete control in midfield. Kitty Susan was causing havoc in the centre forward role. As for ADO’s defence and keeper, they had their easiest night ever. Yes ADO were that dominant.
The rewards came soon enough. In the twelfth minute a cross from Jansen founf Beerensteyn left unmarked close to the penalty spot, The thumping header was powerful and gave Sofie van Houtven in the OHL goal no chance, 1-0.
In the twenty first minute Daphne in ’t Veld played the ball inside to Jansen, the prolific scorer raced into the penalty, set her sights and hit the ball low into the bottom far corner, an expert strike, 2-0.
ADO had more shots on goal, the OHL keeper was at her best as she somehow managed to keep the scoreline down. However, in the thirty fifth minute ADO went three goals up. A corner on the left from Jansen headed in the direction of Oudejans. I have no idea how she managed her shot on goal. It was a mix of a jumping, spinning, overhead back heel, never seen anything like it. The ball looped up and over the keeper into the net, stunning goal, 3-0.
ADO continued to push forward, but 3-0 was the half time score. The second half started exactly the same as the first. ADO were all guns blazing. Early on Susan and Yvette van der Veen had good opportunities to extend ADO’s lead, but there keeper was up to the challenge.
OHL were not in this game at all. ADO could have and should have hit double figures. Susan, Jansen, Oudejans, Beerensteyn and Judith Frijlink all having clear sights on goal, but when a placed shot would have done the trick, they were trying to break the back of the net with power, and many shots flew high and wide, it was open season on the OHL goal.
The final goal came in the eightieth minute. Jansen crossed in from the left and Beerensteyn was at full stretch to guide the ball side out of the reach of the keeper and just inside the post, 4-0. That was how the game ended. ADO ladies were magnificent tonight, could not fault their commitment at all in any position.
