ADO ladies lose at Ajax

After the easy win over Oud-Heverlee Leuven last Friday night, ADO ladies travelled to Amsterdam to take on the ladies of Ajax. This was sure to be a much tougher test for the team managed by Marcel Valk, but it was a game they went into full of confidence.

Unfortunately for ADO, the confidence was misplaced, as in the fifty first second Ajax took the lead, Anouk Hoogendijk heading home from close range, 1-0. This early set back couldn’t kick-start ADO ladies. There was something missing from the team. There were no more goals in the first half, but Ajax hit the post and had a goal disallowed for offside. ADO did not threaten the goal of Ajax once.

The second half saw ADO start at pace, forcing Ajax towards their own goal. The tackles were soon flying in hard and fast, one resulting in a free-kick in the forty seventh minute. Renate Jansen swung the ball over into the penalty box, Lineth Beerensteyn got her head to the ball and nodded home under Marieke Ubachs in the Ajax goal, 1-1.

ADO now needed to settle and take control. sadly Ajax went straight up the other end, were awarded a corner from which Anouk Hoogendijk headed home her and Ajax’s second goal, 2-1.

Ajax had got their tactics dead right, they stopped ADO’s main threat, Jansen and Beerensteyn down the wings, the forwards got no service. In this ADO team it looks as though there are not enough players willing to get into a tough physical battle. The van der Veen twin fought tooth and nail, also Tula de Wit and Judith Frijlink were willing to go in where it hurts; Vesna Veltrop also battered the keeper at one point. Hate to say it, be the others just did not seem up to it, a rare occurrence for the ADO ladies who normally are all willing to mix it on the pitch.

Ajax killed the game off in the sixty fifth minute when Marjolijn van den Bighelaar simply tapped the ball home from a cross, 3-1.

ADO were deflated and broken, they tried to fight back in the final ten minutes. Beerensteyn and Jansen began to get joy down the flanks. Jansen hit a long range free-kick that the Ajax keeper did well to save. However, it was too little too late. Ajax deserved the three points, could have been a bigger defeat. ADO had only three chances on goal in the entire game. It was just a bad day at the office.
