ADO ladies earn a convincing win

On Friday evening ADO ladies took to the pitch for their final home game of the year. The Kyocera has been becoming a fortress during the last few months. One statistical milestone was reached before kick-off. The crowd made it over the 400 mark to give ADO ladies a great total of 75,000 spectators for home games in their short history, an amazing amount for ladies football in Holland.

From the kick-off it was one way traffic as ADO pushed forward with pace and skill. The Gent defence just could not deal with the wing play of Renate Jansen and Lineth Beerensteyn, they were being torn apart. It did not take long for the visiting keeper Nicky Evrard to be called into action, a powerful shot by Paola van der Veen forcing a superb save. Soon after Kitty Susan headed a cross from Jansen goal bound, again Evrard saved brilliantly.

ADO’s Judith Frijlink was given far too much space in midfield and was able to dictate ADO’s play with ease. ADO almost scored just after the half hour mark. Susan played the ball out of the area to the waiting Tessa Oudejans, he ferocious strike smashed against the crossbar. The ball fell down to Jansen who tapped the ball into the net, only to be ruled offside.

ADO reached half time without being in front. Gent had not threatened ADO’s goal once. It had been a totally one sided game, the visitors lucky to still be in the game, if not for their keeper, they would not have been.

The second half started with ADO at full throttle and they were soon rewarded with the breakthrough goal. In the forty eighth minute Beerensteyn ran down the right wing and crossed into the area, the defence hesitated and Susan stretched out a leg to poke the ball into the net, 1-0.

Shortly after going behind Gent went on a counter attack, they split the ADO defence. Isabelle Iliano was put through and was in a one on one with Jennifer Vreugdenhil in the ADO goal. The keeper kept her nerve and came out to meet the forward and blocked the ball at the players feet. The first and last chance Gent were to have.

ADO then dominated the rest of the game with ease. In the sixty sixth minute a ball into the penalty bounced around, Jansen was in space and simply fired the ball into the back of the net, so simple, 2-0.

Shots pounded in on the Gent goal, Frijlink, Oudejans, Beerensteyn and others all having shots from distance. In the final minute ADO were awarded a penalty. Renate Jansen placed the ball on the spot and place the ball hard and low into the bottom right corner. 3-0.

The final whistle was greeted with cheers by the fans, a solid convincing display, a result that was never in doubt from the first minute. The score could have been much greater in ADO’s favour. They now have one more game this year, away to FC Twente next Friday evening.
