ADO ladies reached the semi-finals of the KNVB Beker (Cup) on Friday night with a comfortable win over PEC Zwolle. The atmosphere inside the Kyocera was great, the new fan group made a lot of noise and colour, it was nice to hear actual singing again at an ADO ladies game.
The first thirty minutes of the game was more or less evenly balanced. Both teams pushing forward, but the visitors really didn’t get any great chances on goal. The home side did get some sights on goal, Lineth Beerensteyn was running down the flanks scaring the PEC defence. Renate Jansen was more central this games and Franca van de Kuilen moving inside and out. Jansen did get the ball into the back of the net after a cross by Marelle Worm, only to see it rules out for offside.
In the thirty second minute PEC took the lead. From a corner Sharon Bruinenberg rose highest and headed home at the far post, 0-1. This was a huge shock considering ADO had easily beaten PEC away 1-9 only two weeks ago.
It didn’t take long for ADO to get level, in the thirty ninth minute, Worm hit a stunning long range strike, sadly it smashed against the underside of the bar, Jansen was lurking and had the easiest job to do and knock the ball home from close range, 1-1.
In the forty third minute ADO got themselves in front. Beerensteyn was bursting through into the penalty box and was tripped and a penalty awarded. Van de Kuilen stayed calm as Beerensteyn got lengthy treatment from the trainer. The whistle blew and the ball was firmly and accurately placed into the back of the net, 2-1.
PEC almost gpt level within eight minutes of the restart, a great shot by Tessa Klein Braskamp hit the crossbar. Then it all went wrong for PEC. Braskamp fouled Beerensteyn in full flight, a deliberate trip as she raced in on goal, as a result Braskamp got a red card. From the free-kick Jansen forced the keeper Nadja Olthuis into a wonderful stretching save. The resulting corner found Beerensteyn in plenty of space and was albe to head the ball home, 3-1.
I the seventy fifth minutes ADO ruled out any chance of a PEC fight back. The impressive van de Kuilen fed Jansen who ran in and shot the ball easily into the back of the goal, 4-1.
In the eighty fifth minute ADO got their final goal of the night. Ball moving down ADO right, saw a ball played inside to where Vesna Veltrop was waiting, she twisted well to fire home, her face lit up as the ball hit the back of the net, 5-1.
The ADO ladies closed the game out with ease, a great cheer greeted the final whistle and players, staff and fans celebrated moving into the semi-finals of the cup.
ADO player of the Match: Franca van de Kuilen, great energy and performance.
