ADO ladies lose to the champions

On Friday night ADO ladies returned to action with their first league fixture of the new season against reigning champions FC Twente, a side containing ADO’s record scorer Renate Jansen, making her first return to the Kyocera to face her old team. ADO had been scoring goals for fun in their pre-season build up and then good thing being, there were many different players getting the ball into the net.

Despite the expectation of goals, chances were at a premium in the first half, both teams cancelling each other out in midfield, meaning there were a lot of long balls being played over the top, which turned out to be easy for the defenders to deal with.

The second half livened up a bit and ADO had a clear penalty turned down. Lineth Beerensteyn was inside the area when she was tripped from behind. The assistant referee flagged for a spot kick, yet the referee who was further away waved away the appeals. The resulting free-kick was superbly taken by Dominique Bruinenberg, sadly crashing against the frame of the goal.

After that scare, Twente picked up the pace and pushed ADO back. Jennifer Vreugdenhil in the ADO goal was forced to make some good saves and blocks, but eventually ADO’s luck ran out.

In the sixty eighth minute Shanice van der Sanden struck a shot with not so much power, but it caught the keeper slightly off guard and the ball slipped between her hands into the ADO net, 0-1.

ADO tried to get back on level terms, but left space behind them for the visitors to exploit. In the eighty fourth minute Jill Roord found time and space to fire home to kill off any chance of an ADO come back, 0-2.

A disappointing result, but as it was against the best team of last season, no shame in the result, they matched Twente in all areas for most of the match, but it wasn’t to be.
