On a very wet Friday night in the Kyocera stadium ADO ladies hosted sc Heerenveen. ADO were looking for their first points of the season after their first two disappointing results, two defeats, in which the scored only once and conceded six.
The game kicked off twenty minutes late due to the Heerenveen bus being caught up in heavy traffic. Yet straight from the kick-off they threatened to score, a good save by Jennifer Vreugdenhil denying the late comers.
ADO looked confident early on and worked the width of the pitch well. The blustery conditions made the crossing of the ball accurately very difficult, yet ADO did it well to put the Heerenveen defence under threat and soon it paid off.
In the thirteenth minute Kirsten Koopmans got the ball on the edge of the area, she twisted and spun away from her marker, before calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net with ease past Lotte Wiekamp, 1-0.
ADO certainly dealt with the conditions better than their opponents. In the thirty seventh minute ADO increased their lead. Lineth Beerensteyn raced down the right wing, sent in a hard low cross into the penalty, the cross met by a beautiful diving header from Lisanne Grimberg which flew into the net, 2-0.
In extra time ADO had a clear goal ruled out. A corner resulted in confusion inside the penalty area, then a ADO foot stuck out and clearly put the ball over the line by at least 15cm. Yet both the referee and the assistant said it was not over the line, a crazy, bad decision.
The second half saw no change in the weather conditions, but did se ADO up their game even more, the visitors not really in with any chance. ADO chased down every ball, tackling was strong, the work ethic was great to see.
Midway through the half, ADO were awarded a penalty. ADO number nine Dominique Vugts hit the spot kick hard towards the corner, only for her effort to be well saved by Wiekamp.
Heerenveen didn’t have much to offer in the way of threats on the ADO goal and eventually the game fizzled out. At the final whistle, both the players and fans were very happy to have gotten their first three points in the bag.
