ADO ladies lose at home to Ajax

ADO ladies failed to collect any points from Friday night’s game at home to Ajax of Amsterdam. There was a good sized crowd and plenty of noise and colour as the teams came onto the pitch.

Straight from the kick-off ADO were denied a clear penalty. As Lineth Beerensteyn charged into the penalty area she was impeded by Merel van Dongen, the foul clearly took place in the box, but the referee and his assistant decided otherwise. ADO should have been 1-0 up and had a player advantage!

The first half was very evenly matched, both keepers called into action. Tackles were tough and sadly during one crunching challenge, Yvette van der Veen hurt her ribs. She tried to run the injury off, but eventually had to be substituted. She is always leaves the team weaker when she isn’t playing, such a strong influential player.

The second half saw Ajax play with more urgency and got themselves in front in the fiftieth minute. Chantal de Ridder beating ADO keeper Jennifer Vreugdenhil with a far post header, 0-1.

Ajax continued to dominate possession and play, after sixty two minutes they went further in front. The visitors were awarded a free-kick outside the area. Inessa Kaagman hit the ball superbly into the corner giving Vreugdenhil absolutely no chance, great strike, 0-2.

At 0-2. Ajax decided to sit back and allow ADO to have the ball in the midfield. This was a bad error of judgement as after the Haagse Kwartiertje they could not motivate themselves back into a higher gear as the home side began to storm forward.

With ten minutes remaining ADO pulled a goal back. The ball was played into the Ajax danger area, the ball was bouncing around like in a pinball machine, then Pia Rijsdijk stabbed the ball into the back of the net, 1-2.

The goal ignited the crowd into vociferous support. The home side pushed and pushed for an equalizer. The ball being crossed over time and time again, ADO putting so much pressure on the Ajax defence. In the final minutes even the keeper, Vreugdenhil was coming forward for corners in a desperate attempt to grab a point.

After three minutes of added time, the referee blew his whistle. The away fans celebrated with the players, as ADO’s walked with their heads hung low. A close game, ADO deserved a point, but again ADO failed to get maximum points.
