ADO lose to AZ

Sunday evening in the Kyocera stadium. ADO hosted AZ Alkmaar. ADO seeking a moral boosting win after a series of mediocre displays.

The game turned out to be quite boring as both teams cancelled each other out. Goal scoring chances were rare.

ADO keeper Ernesto Setkus was by far the busiest of the keepers, playing his best home game so far for the club.

In the second half ADO almost took the lead when Mike Havenaar had a powerful header well saved.

It looked to be heading to a goalless draw until AZ broke ADO’s resistance in the eighty seventh minute when Robert Mühren got the visitors in front.

Poor game, poor result meaning three points is definitely needed against Willem II at home next Saturday.

ADO ladies in big win

Friday night in the Kyocera stadium ADO ladies took on a new side in women’s football, Achilles ’29.

The game was a slow affair from the start, both teams struggled to settle into the game. ADO ladies falling into the off-side trap of the visitors on a regular basis. As the first half progressed ADO began to up their tempo.

‘The break through came on the half hour when Victoria Pelova got the ball on the half way line. She glided past two defenders, before facing  Renate Verhoeven in the Achilles goal. With calm efficiency she placed the ball in the back of the net, 1-0.

ADO applied the pressure and if it were not for a great performance by Verhoeven in goal, ADO would have been out of sight by half-time. Yet ADO went in at the break two goals up. In the forty second minute a corner taken by Mijke Roelfsema was met by a powerful header from the captain Pia Rijsdijk that went inside the near post, 2-0.

The second half saw a dominant ADO side lay siege to the Achilles ’29 goal. Again their keeper was their hero, continually blocking shots. She kept ADO out until the fifty third minute. A corner from Roelfsema ricocheted around the penalty area before Marthe van Erk stabbed the ball home, 3-0.

In the seventy fourth minute Achilles got a consolation goal when Kika van Es beat Jennifer Vreugdenhil to ruin the clean sheet ADO desperately wanted, 3-1.

ADO substitute Sharona Tieleman almost made it four goals, a nice tricky run inside from the left, saw her open up the defence of the visitors, her cross come shot looped high and bounced off the top of the crossbar, great play.

The Achilles keeper was then forced to make several more great saves, her block against Yvette van der Veen being the bravest. The Achilles certainly the player of the match, could easily have been eight or more goal for ADO.

She was beaten one more time in the final minute. Tieleman providing the cross for Rijsdijk to claim her second from close range, 4-1.

A great win for ADO ladies, putting them back on track after two recent defeats to the top two sides in the league. The result was important for the goal difference, so everybody was happy.
