ADO announce stadium expansion plans

ADO Den Haag have announced new stadium expansion plans. Despite a poor season and no matter if in the play-offs or even the worst case scenario, relegation. The board   has announced that building work will begin on June 1st on the rebuilding and increasing of capacity of the Haaglanden Tribune (The Midden Noord) The stand will be easily worked on thanks to the plans for any stadium expansion in the stadium’s original design phase.

Work should take eight weeks and will be ready for the new 2017/2018 season. The new capacity will rise from its current 15,000 to 19,700. The reason for this surprise announcement was that after a dreadful campaign, on and off the pitch, the board have taken the huge decision to boost capacity and reduce the cost of a season ticket for adults from its current €295 to only €220   and for youths, it will come down from €215  to just €160. For children it will drop from €95 to €40.

The drop in prices should attract bigger crowds to the stadium on match days, so despite losing on ticket pricing, the attendance should mean ADO Den Haag do not financially lose out. It is a very high risk move, but all involved think the fans deserve it.

More to follow on April 2nd!

ADO ladies lose at league leaders

ADO ladies lost for the fourth time in a row tonight, this time suffering defeat at the hands of league leaders, Ajax ladies. A solitary close range goal in the thirty seventh minute by Pieëte settled the game.

There is a long break now of almost a month before the league gets back to action for its second phase. ADO ladies in a group of four, playing for the title.

ADO will need to get themselves back to winning ways, as the cup loss and three defeats in a row saw ADO drop below the standards they set themselves at the start of the season.

ADO’s relegation fight starts now!

On Sunday 2nd April at 14:30, ADO Den Haag host Roda JC in a real relegation battle for the three points. A win for ADO is vital, as defeat would put the club deep into a fight they do not want to be in. With seven games left to play, ADO are one from bottom in seventeenth place. The team in eighteenth place, currently Go Ahead Eagles go straight down into the Jupiler league. Teams in Sixteenth and seventeenth position go into a play-off game against a team from the second to fifth place in the Jupiler league to be in the Eredivisie. It is in ADO’s own hands as they face Roda JC at home this Sunday, They also go away to another relegation candidate in Sparta Rotterdam. The final game of the season is at home to another team under threat of relegation, Excelsior of Rotterdam. If ADO can win all three, pretty sure ADO would be safe from even the play-offs.

ADO ladies lose to FC Twente

After two successive heavy defeats, would ADO ladies be able to get back to winning ways was the question being asked before they took on FC Twente in the Kyocera stadium early on Saturday evening.

Sadly ADO ladies tasted defeat again, but the performance was much higher than last time out. It was Twente who started strongest in the opening period, keeping ADO pegged back outside their own penalty area. In the fourth minute former ADO favourite Renate Jansen hit a shot from distance which crashed against the crossbar. Early warning signs of what was to come.

Jennifer Vreugdenhil was back in goal and she was made to work. Twente were being kept away from the danger area and were firing in shots from long range, not wasteful ones either. The ADO keeper was on top form, many times using her full length to get finger tips to prevent goal. Midway through the first half Jill Roord got into ADO’s box, she fired a shot that should have resulted in a goal, miraculously somehow Vreugdenhil pulled off a real world class save. The Twente keeper in front of me was cheering for a goal, she too could not believe it wasn’t a goal. Had to be Eredivisie women’s save of the season.

ADO didn’t threaten the goal much, but Sharona Tieleman and Victoria Pelova worked well on the right providing an outlet for the hardworking ADO defence. They managed to earn a couple of corners, but lacked any real directness. As the end of the half approached, another ex ADO favourite Lineth Beerensteyn forced Vreugdenhil into another great save. So 0-0 at the break.

Second half saw Twente coming close to scoring in the opening minutes, then the game settled down in the midfield area. Tieleman had ADO’s best sight on goal, sadly her effort went just over the bar, a miss ADO were soon to regret.

On the hour FC Twente went ahead. The ball coming to Sherida Spitse on the edge of the area. She turned and fired in a low shot just inside the post and out of the reach of the ADO keeper, to celebrate she raced across into the arms of the coaching staff, 0-1

ADO went looking for an equalizer but didn’t create enough to break the defensive line of the visitors. ADO made some substitutions, but it did not help with the attack. It was good to see the return of Lisanne Grimberg, her third spell at ADO. She is a class player and showed some wonderful touches when tightly marked. Great to have her back in the team.

Eighty one minutes played and Twente put the game out of ADO’s reach. A long ball found Jill Roord. The  ADO defence switched off for the first time in the game, allowed her time to shoot into the far bottom corner. Vreugdenhil went ballistic at the players in front of her, she was so angry, 0-2.

The game ended at 0-2. The result a fair one. Twente’s forward line were great, matched equally by some hard working defensive play by ADO’s defenders, especially the aggressive Yvette van der Veen, who ran herself into the ground. If not for player of the match, Jennifer Vreugdenhil, the defeat would have been by a far bigger margin.

Scorers: 60. Sherida Spitse 0-1, 81. Jill Roord 0-2

Attendance: 423

ADO ladies team: Jennifer Vreugdenhil; Yvette van der Veen, Hélène Heemskerk ©, Jessie van Leeuwen (75. Mijke Roelfsema), Priscilla Mesker; Victoria Pelova, Carmen Simonis, Michelle Vrieling; Sharona Tieleman (66. Nadine Noordam), Annouk Boshuizen (75. Lisanne Grimberg), Nance van der Meer

ADO ladies have more game to play in the first phase of the league, away at Ajax next Friday. There is then a long break before the play-offs start. ADO will face Ajax at home. So far the date is set as Friday 21st April, but this maybe switched to the Saturday due to television coverage. You can see the play-ff fixtures HERE.
