On Tuesday afternoon, ADO Den Haag took on Turkish giants Besiktas at the Gloria Sports Arena in a friendly during the club’s Winter training camp in Belek.
ADO began with a strong starting eleven. The Hague side got off to the best possible start, taking the lead after only two minutes, Bjørn Johnsen slotting home, 0-1.
ADO were strong and made more openings. In the tenth minute however, Besiktas were awarded a penalty. ADO keeper Indy Groothuizen pulled off a good save to keep ADO ahead. Soon after the penalty save, El Khayati missed a great chance to double ADO’s lead.
ADO almost conceded when Besiktas hit the post, but ADO still looked composed and after twenty eight minutes Johnsen got his second, a great volley, 0-2.
The Half ended with ADO two goals up. It was a solid display, a strong work ethic. Fons Groenendijk must have been happy with his team
The second half of the game began, again ADO started brightly, El Khayati almost making 0-3 after fifty minutes.
On the hour Besiktas pulled a goal back, scored by Erkin, 1-2. The Turks started to get more into the game and after seventy minutes they missed a good chance to get level, the ball just going the wrong side of the post. Just one minute later, Hutchinson got the second Besiktas goal, after a cross from Erkin, making it 2-2.
Considering this was a mid season friendly, both sides were working hard, trying to play attractive, passing football.
As the clock counted down, it was Besiktas who almost took the lead. Only a great save by Groothuizen prevented the team in black and white from edging in front.
The final whistle blew, a 2-2 scoreline was a great result for ADO. Some good performances to hopefully take into the next friendly on Friday, when ADO will take on Basaksehir.
