ADO ladies frustrate reigning champions

On Friday evening, ADO ladies traveled to Amsterdam to take on the reigning league champions Ajax, at the Ajax training complex, De Toekomst.

Ajax full of experienced players were expected to be a huge challenge to ADO’s younger team. Yet it was the ADO ladies who threatened the goal on two occasions during the opening forty five minutes. This meant everything was going pretty much to plan with the game at 0-0.

The second half saw ADO ladies stay as a solid unit. ADO ladies introduced substitutes throughout the half, yet the formation remained strong. They battled hard and frustrated the home side. ADO used up the time well, making a final change in the ninety first minute.

The final whistle blew and was greeted by a very happy looking ADO side. This was an excellent point gained, when most expected they would leave Amsterdam with no points at all.

ADO ladies draw their opening game

ADO ladies open their season with a game against PEC Zwolle. It was looking as though ADO would be starting with a win. Yet the visitors stole a point in the ninety fourth minute of the game.

PEC started the stronger and for ten minutes were in charge of the midfield. ADO were coming down the wings, but Zwolle looked confident on the ball. Yet their confidence became their downfall. In the seventeenth minute, they again tried to play the ball out of defence using fast, tight passing, this time it backfired.  Keeper Nadja Olthuis tripped and gave the ball away, the ball came to Suzanne Admiraal, who had time and space to fire home ADO ladies first goal of the campaign, 1-0.

Once in front ADO took over the game, on more than one occasion ADO players found themselves in front of the goal with time, yet their efforts were well blocked by the Zwolle keeper, chances that would cost ADO later.

There was heavy rain during the first half, but in the second, the heavens really opened up. It was ADO who dealt with the conditions better and it was they who scored again. On the hour, Nance van der Meer played a long ball forward, brilliantly finding Carmen Simonis. She raced in on goal, could have shot, but instead played the ball into the area for Victoria Pelova. As she was about to shoot, she was barged in the back and a penalty was awarded. Simonis firing the spot kick home to the right of the keeper, 2-0.

ADO missed further chances, the best just going over the bar, it looked comfortable for ADO, but Zwolle were still up for the fight. In the seventieth minute they pulled a goal back. Babiche Roof beating Barbara Lorsheyd in the ADO goal, who was made captain on her return to the club, 2-1.

Zwolle could sense ADO were nervous and pressed for the all important equaliser. An injury lead to the assistant referee showing there would be an additional four minutes of extra time and in the final minute, Shanel Smid managed to sweep the ball into the far  corner, leaving Lorsheyd helpless, 2-2.

ADO looked so downhearted, They kicked off and the final whistle blew. A disappointing end to the night, but they will learn from it and improve.

ADO ladies win final pre-season friendly

On Wednesday night, ADO ladies played their final pre-season friendly against Ter Leede VR1, winning the game 0-3.

ADO were two goal by half-time. The first coming in the thirteenth minute, thanks to Suzanne Admiraal. The second goal came in the forty first minute when Nance van der Meer scored, both goals created by Romy Speelman.

ADO’s third goal came in the eighty second minute of the second half, scored by Carmen Simonis after being played in by van der Meer.

ADO’s starting eleven: Lorsheyd, Mesker, Noordam, Tieleman, Simonis, van der Meer, van Erk, Kuilenburg, Speelman, Admiraal,Delleman.

The new season for real starts next week on Friday night. Be there and support the ADO ladies this coming season.

ADO lose third in a row

On Saturday night, ADO Den Haag took on sc Heerenveen in their third match of the new season in the Cars Jeans stadium.

Before the game, Sarina Wiegman, The former head coach of the successful ADO ladies football team, who has now conquered ladies European football with the Dutch orange lionesses was given a great reception by her home town fans. She was handed an award by ADO club icon Lex Schoenmaker.

Then it was the main event of the evening. ADO were looking to get their first points on the table, but it wasn’t to be. The visitors were the stronger side from the start, wasting several opportunities, leaving ADO with only the rarest of chances. Yet at half-time the game remained goalless.

ADO had an early site on goal, but then Heerenveen took over the game. The fifty seventh minute saw Morten Thorsby score the opener from a cross by Denzel Dumfries, 0-1. Then just nine minutes later Thorsby scored again, 0-2.

In the seventy eighth minute Bjørn Johnsen pulled a goal back for the home side, ADO’s first goal of the season. There was a glimmer of hope, but the referee’s final whistle meant it ended 1-2. So after three games, ADO remain pointless.

ADO ladies win latest friendly

ADO ladies played another friendly in their build up to the coming season on Friday night. They took on Buitenveldert Vr1 in Amsterdam.

ADO ladies starting eleven was: Dalebout, Mesker, Noordam, Tieleman, Simonis, van der Meer, Daal, Boshuizen, Speelman, Admiraal and Delleman. The substitutes were Lorsheyd, Koster, Pelova, van Erk and Kuilenburg.

The first half was goalless, but the second half saw much more goal action. ADO took the lead in the fifty third minute, Nadine Noordam scoring from an assist by Carmen Simonis. In the seventy forth minute goal provider turned goal scorer. Simonis hitting the back of the net, 0-2.

The home side pulled a goal back in the seventy eighth minute, 1-2. ADO ladies finished the game off in the eighty forth minute. Suzanne Admiraal scoring after being put through by Marthe van Erk. That was the end of the scoring, a good 1-3 win for the ladies of ADO.

ADO ladies draw in Belgium

On Tuesday night, ADO ladies played their latest pre-season friendly away to KAA Gent. It proved to be a good solid workout for the ladies from The Hague.

At Half time it was level at 1-1. Gent had taken the lead in the twentieth minute. ADO drew level in the thirty first minute thanks to a goal by Carmen Simonis. The second half saw ADO take the lead in the seventy first minute when Nance van der Meer scored. The lead lasted only eight minutes when Gent got their second and final goal of the game.
