ADO v Feyenoord
Ok, before we get started, would just like to remind you all of the great offer that has been arranged between ADO Den Haag and The Hagueonline. The offer, go and be apart of the biggest home game of the season as ADO welcome Ajax to the Kyocera stadion. The tickets costing just 20 Euros!!!
Now back to business and WOW! What an occasion. The crowd were well up for this game long before the kick-off and along with the 900 visiting Feyenoord supporters helped to create a fantastic atmosphere. ADO fans produced an amazing piece of artwork before the kick off, all the players painted as figures from the Goodfellas movie. Real detailed stuff, everybody was amazed when it was unfurled.
The game itself, well without wishing to use a football cliché, it was a game of two halves. From the kick and for the next twenty five minutes ADO totally dominated Feyenoord. The players were winning every 50/50 ball; they would not let a Feyenoorder settle on the ball for more than a second before closing down or crunching in with tackles. Their play was intense, fast and flowing. Despite all of the pressure and possession, ADO just could not break through. A few wild shots and shot that crashed against the bar and many scrambles in the Feyenoord goal mouth, but no final goal to show for it all.
Twenty six minutes into the first half and Feyenoord break free; Ron Vlaar gets clear of the ADO defence and fires long range. The shot looked harmless enough but Coutinho allows the ball to squirm through his grasp. As the ball rolls agonizingly slowly towards the goal line, Coutinho just manages to pounce on the ball as Vlaar followed up with a outstretched leg, all ending with smiles. .
On the half hour Feyenoord break forward again. A ball in to the penalty finds Lue Castaignos in space. His first touch is excellent bringing the ball under control with his back to goal. In one movement he swivels and lobs the ball right footed goalwards. Unfortunately for ADO, Coutinho is not the tallest goalkeeper in world football as the ball floated over his head and in to the net all he could do was flap at it, 0-1.
In the thirty eighth minute Feyenoord are awarded a corner on the right. The ball is crossed deep into the box. Vlaar heads it back to the penalty spot where Castaignos acrobatically hits the ball full off the ground over his head, stunning finish and 0-2 to the visitors. ADO fans and players all look shell shocked.
The half time whistle blew and all you could hear was the Feyenoord fans celebrating their lead after being put under so much pressure. I thought the half time talk by v/d Brom would be simple. Same as before please, ADO had done nothing wrong.
The second half was a repeat of the first, but only with Feyenoord being the dominant team. Everybody expected ADO to come out fighting like a wounded tiger, but no. They looked timid and panicky. The looked as though they were running on nervous energy, it was a mess. Wild passes that the Feyenoord defence and midfield gratefully gobbled up. ADO were trying but in an extremely unprofessional way. Feyenoord just soaked it up. To make matters worse for ADO, Feyenoord’s new Japanese star, Ryo Miyaichi was scaring the hell out of the ADO defence. He just kept on storming down the left wing causing Ammi many headaches.
ADO almost pulled a goal back in the fifty eighth minute when they were awarded a free kick twenty two metres from goal. Toornstra lined up the shot and with some venom, blasted the ball over the wall, causing Erwin Mulder in the Feyenoord goal to stretch to his limit to fingertip the shot onto the crossbar.
ADO breathed a sigh of relief in the sixty fifth minute as Feyenoord stormed forward. Castaignos collects the ball on the left, cuts inside and shoots only to see his hat trick chance disappear as the ball came back off the upright. So close.
Then as in the first half, albeit a bit later, with nine minutes to go the game turned on its head; ADO pulled a goal back. ADO broke forward from deep, Verhoek plays the ball forward to Immers, whose pass forward is sublime, releasing Vicento, he didn’t even have to break stride as he hit an instant left footed shot into the back of the Feyenoord net. No celebrations, the players just wanted to kick off again, 1-2.
ADO were on the up and piling players forward in search of an equalizer. In the eighty fifth minute they got it. Immers played the ball in to the feet of Toornstra. A quick look up and he plays the ball across the six yard line to Bulykin who runs in and strokes the ball home into the net. The whole stadium vibrates as the noise levels dramatically rose, 2-2.
Ninety minutes were played and the fourth official showed five minutes of extra time to be played. Both teams really went for it. Ninety four minutes in and Vicento get the ball on the right. He takes on the Feyenoord defence and beats them, as he moves in to the bos, Verhoek was free, but instead went for glory and the chance was wasted. Immediately Feyenoord went on the offensive and were awarded a free kick as the clock moved in to the ninety sixth minute. They got awarded a frère kick after a rash challenge by Ammi. Under so much pressure, Diego Bisewar lined up the shot. So close yet so far as his thunderous shot cannoned back off the woodwork and to safety.
The referee, Danny Makkelie then blew the final whistle. A breathtaking finish to a wonderful game of football: Both sides cheered by their supporters as they left the pitch.
ADO man of the match: Bulykin, so many chances but refused to give up and finally got his reward with a valuable equaliser.
Attendance: 15,000 sell out!
