ADO v Roda JC

ADO v Roda JC

After the Winter break in the Dutch Eredivisie, ADO returned to league action against Roda JC after having a good training break in the Spanish sun in Estepona. A draw against Belgian side Zulte Waregem and a loss to Hamburg of Germany left them in good spirits, especially after a stunning dominant display against Hamburg, in a game they could have easily won.

The stadium was rocking wildly as the teams came out to an almost sell out crowd on Friday night. The biggest crowd of the season so far; a night that also saw the one millionth fan enter the stadium, a historic moment in the stadiums history. The fan, Cees Pronk received two free season tickets for next season and also gets the VIP treatment at the upcoming AZ gane. It was just a shame that Roda supporters did not take up their entire allocation of tickets, otherwise this could have been the best atmosphere of the season so far, a great way to start part two of the season.

ADO stated the game in style, forcing the pace. In the game at Roda earlier this season ADO scored inside ten seconds, this time they had to wait a little longer for the opening goal. John Verhoek getting on the end of a pass by his brother Wesley and sweeping the ball home in the third minute, 1-0.

ADO was pegged back in the fifteenth minute. A misplaced pass by Wesley Verhoek allowed Mads Junker to race in on Coutinho and slot the ball past ADO’s keeper, 1-1.

Twenty five minutes played and ADO regain the lead. After lots of ADO pressure, Chery get the ball across the area. Roda’s keeper Pawel Kieszek misjudges the ball and allows Vicento to steal in at the back post for an easy finish, 2-1.

ADO continued to apply the pressure until half time, several shot going just wide, but in easy control of the midfield battle.

The second half began in much the same way as the first: ADO the stronger and more forceful in their play. The almost sell out crowd picked up on this and the volume within the stadium went up considerably.

Despite ADO’s explosive start to the second half, Roda got their second goal in the forty eighth minute; some quick inter play amongst the Roda attackers saw Sanharib Malki finally beat Coutinho with a strong clinical finish that was unstoppable, 2-2.

In the fifty eighth minute Vicento got his second and ADO’s third after a long ball by Toornstra into space saw a direct race between the ADO winger and Kieszek in the Roda goal. Vicento won the race and steered the ball into an empty net, 3-2.

As the half continued the play settled and became more evenly balanced. Boussaboun who had replaced Vicento was guilty of wasting several clear chances to play the Verhoek’s in on goal. ADO wasted several more clear cut chances. John Verhoek battling for all he was worth, but to no avail.

With seven minutes remaining ADO hearts were crushed. A corner was only partly cleared by the ADO defence: The ball eventually falling to Malki inside the area to finish the scoring off, 3-3.

The game finished with ADO again on the ascendancy, but no further clear cut chances were made. At the final whistle all the players looked dejected and the fans visibly shocked. An exciting game, but one that ADO certainly should have claimed three points from.

ADO man of the match: Charlton Vicento Scored twice and was full of confidence, pulling of many great passes and tricks: A top display.
