ADO Den Haag continued their pre-season campaign with a match against second division side FC Dordrecht. This was also the first game as captain for new signing Danny Holla.
This game was not a great spectacle to watch for those who turned up from sunbathing at the beach, 1250 of them. ADO struggled to contain a very energetic Dordrecht team. ADO were matching them inside their own half, but going forward ADO were giving the ball away far too easily, even the simple passes were going astray. Eventually one of these break downs resulted with the visitors breaking away to score with a goal from Roderick Gielisse in the thirty second minute. It was good to see the sportmanship of the ADO supporters who applauded the goal
ADO tried to press forward for the rest of the half and ended up resulting to a few long range efforts that were way off target. Mike van Duinen was also working hard in the centre, but the Dordrecht defence worked hard on shuting his space down.
The seond half saw ADO playing with a bit more urgency and tempo, forcing Dordrecht to play much of the half on the defensive. ADO got their first goal in the fifty seventh minute thanks to van Duinen, ADO’s second was by Chery, who struck a stunning free-kick over the wall and into the back of the net in the sixty eighth minute. ADO continued pressing, mostly by playing the ball down the wings. This looked to be a good tactic as they were getting space in wide areas and were rewarded with a third goal in the seventy fourth minute as van Duinen claimed his second of the evening.
In the eighty sixth minute FC Dordrecht pulled a goal back through Javier Martina, the goal gave the scorelne a more realistic look, as Dordrecht had put ADO under a lot of pressure at times, so a 3-2 score line was a fair result.
After watching this game, it looks as though there is much work to be done on the training ground, getting the players to gel more, it wil come with time no doubt. The club has another three friendly matches to get all the little problems ironed out before the season starts for real.
