There was a warm welcome for Newcastle’s Dutch international keeper Tim Krul, a man born and bred in The Hague and where he learnt his goal keeping trade.
The game itself saw ADO play their best football of the pre-season, looking more solid at the back and more adventurous going forward. There were some great performances against a strong Newcastle side, especially from van Duinen and Mulders. Coutinho pulled off one excellent save in the first half, but was otherwise he was not needed.
The second half saw Newcastle have a goal disallowed for off-side, but more pleasing was that for a ten minute spell ADO really threatened the visitor’s goal. Wing play from Vicento and Mulders, added to by Meijers in the middle saw Newcastle on the back foot and ADO had a couple of great chances to take the lead, but unfortunately they were not taken.
For the 7,120 fans who attended the game it was an entertaining match to end the pre-season fixture list, things looking good for ADO and we wish them well for the coming season.
