ADO draw at Roda JC
Thanks to the KNVB’s infinite wisdom the players and fans of ADO Den Haag had yet another late, long trip this week. After last Tuesdays cup match away to FC Groningen which ADO lost 1-0, this time they travelled to Kerkrade with a late kick-off at 20.00.
The travels and late kick-offs looked to have taken their tolls on the ADO players; even the usual ADO engine room of van Duinen, Holla and Toornstra looked tired and unable to get themselves into the game.
The game began slowly at first before both teams showed a bit of promise going forward. It wasn’t an exciting game by any stretch of the imagination, but there were chances for both sides throughout the game, resulting from some skilful play: The first falling to Meijers in the eighth minute. He received the ball inside his own half and raced down the left wing beating four Roda players before making his way into the area and shooting just over the bar.
Roda had two quick chances on the fifteen minute mark: Both Krisztian Nemeth and Mark-Jan Fledderus pulling their shots to the left of the ADO goal, not threatening Zwinkels at all.
After a foul was awarded to Roda i the nineteenth minute for a soft challenge by Holla, Maurice Steijn lost his cool totally, remonstrating with the fourth official and the linesman, so much so that referee Wegereef had to intervene twice in quick succession. It was looking like Steijn was going to be sent to the stands, but the referee handled it well and Steijn eventually calmed down. Good to see his passions explode for all to see.
In the twenty third minute Poepon played a one two with Chery, he found himself with only the keeper to beat, he shot through the keepers legs and some how the ball managed to deflect and bounce over the cross bar, unbelievable.
Half hour played and the Roda forward Sanharib Malki produced a stunning overhead kick which just went passed Zwinkels post, only the bravery of Wormgoor putting his head into the danger area put the striker off his target.
The second half started well for ADO, within the first two minutes Chery got onto the end of a free kick in space, the quick reactions of Filip Kurto racing out to face him cleared the danger.
In the fifty eighth minute both sides could have took the lead. Firstly from a corner on the left, ADO’s Tom Beugelsdijk saw his downward header head toward goal, only to se it cleared off the goal line by Amin Affane. The ball then went up the other end, Malki crosses the ball into the ADO penalty area and Mitchell Donald fired in a quick shot that was brilliantly saved by Zwinkels: From the resulting corner Bart Biemans crashed a header against the ADO crossbar with Zwinkels well beaten, a let off for ADO.
The game slowed down totally after that until the final minute when only a superb block tackle by Holla inside his own area prevented Biemans from snatching a victory for the home side.
So 0-0 it finished. ADO Den Haag remaining unbeaten on their travels in the Eredivisie. This was also the second league game in a row without conceding a goal. If only ADO were more efficient with their finishing in front of goal they would be much higher in the league standings.
ADO man of the match: Vito Wormgoor, Solid at the back.
