Finally on Saturday afternoon we got to see a fired up and attack minded ADO Den Haag. It looks as though manager Maurice Steijn knows his starting eleven for the coming season.
ADO began quickly and immediately had the opposition under pressure. ADO were shooting on sight which made a good change to recent matches. ADO played some good creative football and got through the midfield and defence of Excelsior with ease. Aaron Meijers at the centre of most good things.
ADO took the lead in the tenth minute thanks to a great shot by Meijers from just outside the penalty area, a super strike,1-0.
ADO kept forcing the play and only the linesman prevented the score from increasing by pulling back van Duinen for offside on two occasions. The team continued to attack and yet the side from Rotterdam managed to get back on level terms in the thirty seventh minutes thanks to a header from Veldwijk, 1-1.
At half time it was noticed that Jerson Cabral, the forward of FC Twente was sitting in the crowd watching, a player that has been linked in the press to ADO in recent times. Does this mean he is coming?
Second half saw several changes. ADO gave a debut to new signing Mitchell Schet who looks to be an exciting addition to the squad as he terrorized the Excelsior defence with his fast turn of pace and agility.
The game got a bit niggly and after one dig too many at Wormgoor the ADO player retaliated, not in a violent manner, but a foul was given away. The referee then lectured the player who had been the victim several times earlier. This incensed Maurice Steijn who was then dismissed from the pitch and had to watch the rest of the game with the supporters.
ADO got the winning goal on the hour. A swift low ball into the area from the right saw van Duinen ghosting in to whip a shot powerfully into the back of the net, a very tidy finish, 2-1.
The rest of the game saw ADO dominate their visitors, but not so much as in the first forty five minutes. All in all it was a good showing by ADO. They now have one more friendly next Saturday, then the following week it all starts for real.
