On Saturday ADO Den Haag faced newly promoted SC Cambuur in the Kyocera stadium. ADO’s first home game on their new artificial pitch reaped rewards with a win over then league leaders FC Twente. Many people put it down to the new surface, however SC Cambuur have been playing on their own artificial pitch for some time, so maybe it would benefit the visitors more than the hosts?
As it turned out ADO ran out comfortable winners. The new pitch is something have gotten used to very quickly. ADO forced a corner within thirty seconds of the start and that sort of pressure continued throughout the game.
In the twelfth minute ADO got a warning to keep their concentration after a headed goal by Alexander Cristovao was ruled out for off-side.
One minute later ADO took the lead. Jerson Cabral went down the left flank before crossing into the danger area. The ball eventually came to Mathius Gerhrt whose instant shot took a deflection off former ADO favourite Ramon Leeuwin and went into the back of the net, 1-0.
As the game progressed some of the tackles were going in hard and fast. The referee was making some strange decisions, giving out yellow cards for minor offences, yet seemingly letting the wild assaults go unpunished, much to the annoyance of ADO manager Maurice Steijn who could be seen remonstrating with the fourth official and at times direct to the referee.
On thirty two minutes ADO increased their lead. A free-kick by Aaron Meijers eventually found its way to Mike van Duinen who put the ball into the Cambuur net, 2-0.
The game was running well for ADO, Cambuur had limited possession and Gino Coutinho was a virtual spectator in the ADO goal. Gerht and van Duinen were running the visitors ragged. As the half neared its end you could see players who have been struggling with their confidence recently start to grow in stature, good sign indeed.
Second started with ADO still very much in control. There were not many good scoring opportunities, all from the home side, The players from Cambuur seemed to lack any form of motivation, it was not until the sixty fifth minute when they actually got a shot on target of any description. In a five minute spell Coutinho had to block a couple of weak efforts.
ADO killed to game off in the seventy second minute. van Duinen ran down the right wing, looked up and saw Gehrt ryunning into space. Tee delivery was perfect, the Dane didn’t need to break his stride as he shot home to make it 3-0.
A few more chances were created by ADO. They remained in control for the rest of the game. The fans on the Midden Noord had been making themselves heard throughout the whole game and at the final whistle cheers erupted around the stadium. A good win which is adding to their confidence. No match next week due to International fixtures, after that they are away to FC Utrecht.
So that is now two wins from two games on the new artificial turf, A 6 points and 6 goals, next up at home is Ajax on December 1st.
