For the second game in a row ADO Den Haag kept a clean sheet and secured only their second ever win away at Roda JC. The Henk Fraser factor kicking in well at the start of his management career.
There were two big players missing from the starting eleven, injured keeper Gino Coutinho and suspended Tommie Beugelsdijk, yet their replacements did a great job, keeping the defence strong and resolute.
The first half was pretty even, ADO were playing well as a team and their passing was much better than in the previous weeks.
At half time it was goalless and the thought of ADO keeping two clean sheets in a row was looking a distinct possibility.
It was in the fifty third minute that ADO broke the deadlock. An attacking move by Danny Holla and Mike van Duinen saw a chance fall to ADO new boy Yanic Wildschut after a neat pass from Mathias Gehrt, the Roda keeper was quick to react only for the rebound to fall nicely for Mitchell Schet to put the ball into the net, 0-1.
After going a goal behind the home side couldn’t lift themselves to threaten an equaliser, only two weak efforts which were very easily dealt with. It was only in the final minute that they really threatened as former ADO player Marc Hocher was involved, but the foot of Zwinkels saved ADO and got them to keep the very valuable three points.
For ADO it was a great night, no longer in last place in the league, no goals conceded and a team performance that showed an understanding that has just not been their during the final weeks of Maurice Steijns reign.
