After a point gained away at FC Utrecht last week, ADO were looking to get back to winning ways when they faced Go Ahead Eagles from Deventer in the Kyocera stadium.
This was a game ADO should have and could have won. They totally dominated the play throughout the game limiting the opposition to three attempts on goal. ADO’s finishing was just not there, so many times firing over the bar, it was just one of those nights of frustration that the fans are used to.
ADO started the game well, instantly putting the visitors on the back foot, in the sixth minute ADO built up down the right wing, a cross into the penalty area was met by Kevin Jansen whose shot was blocked, the ball came out to Zuiverloon, the instant cross was well headed by Michiel Kramer forcing Erik Cummins into a great one handed safe, the ball came out to Jansen who fired the ball home, only to see the effort ruled out for offside.
In the eleventh minute ADO were close again, a cross from the left by Dion Malone was met by Kramer, only to see his effort go wide of the upright.
In the thirty second minute ADO dispossessed Go Ahead inside their own half, Mike van Duinen played the ball forward to Kramer, who returned the ball in a sweeping single movement, van Duinen was one on one with the keeper, Cummins winning the race, just blocking the ball at the forwards feet.
It was not until the forty fifth minute that Go Ahead Eagles go near to the ADO goal. They moved forward in numbers, the ball played out wide to Jules reimerink; his shot was weak and low and easy for keeper Martin Hansen to collect.
In first half injury time ADO had another opportunity to take the lead, some free quick passing in the midfield saw the ball finally go out wide to the right. Gianni Zuiverloon crossed the ball into the box, van Duinen swivelled and hit a shot just over the bar.
ADO began the second half as they did the first. in the fifty first minute Aaron Meijers crossed the ball in from the left hand side, a great cross that was met with a full bloodied power header by Zuiverloon who was unmarked near the penalty spot, sad to say, but the ball again was over the bar.
An hour into the game and Go Ahead Eagles took a shock lead. They had been no threat whatsoever during the game. They worked the ball across the pitch until it came out to Sven Nieuwpoort, he whipped the ball into the danger area at pace; Eagles Teije ten Den jumped with ADO defender Timothy Derijck, the ball flew into the back of the net giving Hansen no chance to save it. The goal was awarded to ten Den, but replays later showed that it was Derijck who got the final touch, scoring the own goal, 0-1.
Following on from the goal, ADO put the visitors under siege. Attack after attack came down the flanks as ADO looked for an equaliser. In the space of seven minutes, Xander Houtkoop, van Duinen, Roland Alberg and Meijers had chances to get the score level, yet only once was Cummins forced into making a save.
The team as a whole were playing with passion and pride, the fans could see this and as the clock was counting down the minute the supporters increased their volume. In the eighty fourth minute they got their reward. Meijers on the left attempted a cross with just a flick of the boot, it headed slowly towards the Eagles goal, there looked to be no danger and a simple catch for the Go Ahead keeper. Cummins lost his bearings and fumbled the ball, he fell into the back of the net as the ball hit the bar and fell to Kramer to apply the simple finish, 1-1.
ADO pushed for a winner in the closing stages of the game. Cummins became a liability in the Eagles goal, he could not hold onto anything, his error for the goal had got to him mentally. He looked flustered and ADO bombarded him with crosses, unfortunately the side from Deventer held onto their point. ADO were disappointed, so dominant, yet finishing was poor, on another day would have been another three or four scored. The fans saw a battling effort and gave the players a good cheer at the end.
ADO man of the match: Michiel Kramer, Goal scorer and worked so hard for the team for the full ninety minutes.
