ADO returned to action after the winter break with a home game against sc Cambuur Leeuwarden. ADO had been in the Spanish sunshine at their training camp in Estepona preparing for the coming challenges. ADO still had not made any relevant transfer signings ahead of this game so went into the game with their usual selection of players . The only major missing ones being that of Michiel Kramer, out through suspension and Wilfried Kanon on international duty.
Before the game started there was a stunning tribute to young fan Kaja, who died suddenly aged 21. The singing by the fans, the fireworks and smoke got to everybody emotionally, a great send off by all at the club.
The game then carried on from the tribute, a special way for the players to be part of the tribute. After only twenty six seconds ADO took the lead, fastest goal in the Eredivisie this season. Dion Malone feeding the ball to Mike van Duinen, the ball stayed close to him and then slotted the ball into the back of the net past Leonard Nienhuis, 1-0.
Sadly the game slid into a boring slow match. ADO filled the midfield, Cambuur had no idea had to get through, it was a stalemate. The next action came in the thirty sixth minute. The visitors got free on the right, Sander van de Streek cut inside and forced Martin Hansen in the ADO goal to make a good block and put the ball out for a corner. From that corner ADO didn’t clear the danger, a half hit shot was met by Bartholomew Ogbeche who put the ball into the far corner, 1-1.
A minute later and ADO were back in front. Mitchell Schet got the ball in the area on the right hand side, took the ball close to the line, shot, the ball was cleared to just outside the area. Malone was waiting and struck a long range effort, the ball deflected by a defender and fell perfectly for Alberg to hit the back of the net, 2-1.
The second half saw the visitors push up a bit more and in the fifty sixth minute it almost cost them a goal. Vito Wormgoor played a ball over the defence, van Duinen beat the offside trap and was in a clear one on one with the Cambuur keeper. The striker probably had too much time to think about it and slid the ball just wide of the upright.
ADO seemed happy to sit back and let Cambuur come at them. This eventually cost ADO two points. In the seventy seventh minute a cross from the right came across the area, Hansen didn’t come to collect it, didn’t need to, three ADO defenders were all in front of him, yet none of them jumped to head the ball away, Ogbeche claimed the goal with a header, unchallenged, terrible defending. 2-2.
That was the action over as the game died out. The fans were not happy. It was later confirmed that ADO keeper was so angry, that he left the pitch and went straight to his car and drove away from the stadium without changing.
