NEC Nijmegen v ADO

On Saturday evening ADO Den Haag suffered a heavy defeat away at NEC Nijmegen. A result that has sent shock waves through the club and its supporters who are certainly not happy. After the first four games of the season against tough opposition against which ADO performed really well, it seems everything is falling apart against lesser opponents.

The home side kicked off, a few passes, then a long ball forward to Anthony Limbombe who got to the touch line, sent in a hard low cross and on twenty seconds exactly, ADO got their first touch of the ball as defender Aaron Meijers hit the ball into the back of his own net, 1-0.

NEC were the stronger side, ADO were being dealt with fat too easily, yet in the twenty first minute they got back on level terms. A corner by Edouard Duplan was met by the head of Vito Wormgoor and his efort easily beating the keeper, 1-1.

NEC started the second half with fire inside them, really going at ADO. Kevin Blom the referee denying the home side an obvious penalty in the fifty first minute, was a bad foul and lucky he obviously didn’t see the incident properly, otherwise could have seen ADO go down to ten men.

ADO were totally under siege and struggled to keep NEC at bay, yet they could only hold out until the sixty third minute. A cross from the left was met by a perfectly executed overhead kick by Christian Santos and the ball hit the back of the goal, stunning goal, 2-1.

ADO were just not in this game and in the seventy fifth minute went further behind. A cross from the right saw the ADO defence react slowly allowing an unmarked  Limbombe to simply score probably his easiest goal ever, 3-1.

In the seventy ninth minute ADO crumbled again. ADO had a free kick just outside the NEC penalty area, within ten seconds NEC were awarded a corner. The ball came in, there was a scramble, Santos was quick to react and scoop the ball into the roof of the net, 4-1.

At the end the ADO players looked shell shocked, but they got what they deserved, nothing. That is now ten goals conceded in the last three games. There is a huge problem at the back for ADO. Henk Fraser has an awful lot of work to do in the next two weeks, as thankfully there is an international break next weekend, so ADO do not play again until 18th October at home to bottom of the league De Graafschap, this looks to be a must win game otherwise the fans will start to turn, as already ADO are 16th in the league.
