ADO v Ajax

After the international break, ADO Den Haag returned to action in the biggest home game of the season, the clash with Amsterdam side, Ajax. As always this lead to an amazing atmosphere inside the  Kyocera stadium, made even more intense due to the music provided by Darkraver and the Outsiders.

From the kick-off ADO went on the attack, Ruben Schaken crossing into the penalty area causing panic. Mike Havenaar had a couple of attempts to score, his final effort rebounding off Kevin Jansen.

The game then switched off, no attacking coming from either side, a very slow game with no sign of aggression. After fifteen minutes Ajax broke forward. They split the ADO backline and Ernesto Setkus made a great save from Bertrand Traore, a rebound was put forward and found the head of Traore who headed home from an offside position.

In the twentieth minute the visitors went ahead. From a throw in, Lasse Schöne lifted the ball cleverly to Davy Klaassen, his shot going in at the far corner, a nice finish, 0-1.

The game then came to life, within a minute of going ahead, Ajax hit the crossbar. Seconds later ADO counter attacked down the left. Sheraldo Becker cutting in towards goal, only to be foiled by a superb goal saving tackle  from Davinson Sanchez.

In the thirty second minute were awarded a corner and taken by Edouard Duplan, the ball was headed back to the danger area, Thomas Meißner turned in the penalty box, his foot was caught by a defender and fell to the ground claiming a penalty. Referee Kevin Blom saying it was a dive. I was behind that goal and it was a penalty. Also if Blom said it was a dive, Meißner should have been booked. A huge let off for Ajax.

The second half started well for ADO, after a minute Jansen fired from distance, the ball deflecting off a defender and just missing the post by millimetres. From the resulting corner, Tommie Beugelsdijk headed forward, the ball looking to hit an Ajax arm, Blom again turning down ADO’s penalty appeal.

Ajax doubled their lead in the fifty second minute. ADO gave the ball away and Amin Younes skipped through some weak defending, the ball played to his right for Traore to slot the ball home passed Setkus, 0-2.

After going two goals down, ADO heads dropped. They were lethargic and unable to offer up any serious attacks on the Ajax goal. The introduction of Gervane Kastaneer and Ludcinio Marengo lifted ADO briefly and the crowd which had become unusually quiet, but it was Ajax who threatened on a few more occasions.

The big game became a big flop for ADO. That was their fifth league defeat in a row. Next up they face struggling side Roda JC away. They must win this game to install some confidence into the squad.
