On a freezing and foggy night in the Kyocera stadium, ADO Den Haag’s mix of first teamers and Youth team took on Westlandia. The game was a typical friendly, not much action and many substitutions.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw. The visitors taking a fifth minute lead. Can’t describe the goal as couldn’t see that end of the pitch due to the weather, but it was Jedsel Merkes who got the goal, 0-1.
ADO got their equaliser in the first minute of the second half. Chovanie Amatkarijo got the ball to the dead ball line. His twisted his way into a better angle before thumping the ball into the roof of the net, giving the keeper, Edgar Leerdam no chance, 1-1.
ADO came so close to winning the game with the final kick of the game. Amatkarijo raced in on goal. Leerdam came to meet him and blocked the well hit shot, great save.
There were two things of note from the match. Firstly it saw the return of Club captain Aaron Meijers and top defender Dion Malone, both who had been long term absentees through injury.
Secondly, the poor run of form of young striker Dennis van der Heijden was highlighted greatly. Four times he faced the Westlandia keeper in one on one situations. Each time his lack of self belief cost him an easy goal. Sadly he struggling and you can see it getting to him. Rumours have been stating that ADO are thinking of loaning him out to get some more first team football and rebuild his confidence.
