After the international break, ADO Den Haag took the long trip to face FC Groningen. The question was with many players out due to injury, did the break come at the right time for ADO, allowing them to settle a new system, or was it a blow following on from their win over Willem II two weeks ago?

ADO sad to say could not get the points. A 2-1 defeat saw Ernestas Setkus in the ADO goal be the man of the match, producing several fine saves, preventing Groningen from an even bigger victory.
The home side took the lead in the eleventh minute, from a corner, the ball was bouncing around the penalty area, then Hans Hateboer struck the ball home, a slight deflection deceiving Setkus, 1-0.
Groningen took charge and Setkus was kept busy, standing strong against the attacking play of the hosts. Yet ADO managed to get level just before the break. In the forty second minute, the Groningen keeper punched the ball clear from a cross. Eduard Duplan controlled the ball on his chest before hitting an accurate right foot shot inside the post, great finish, 1-1.
The second half was only nine minutes old when Groningen got back in front for the second time. A nice build up from the host side and Tom van Weert finished in style, 2-1.
ADO produced little in the attacking areas of the pitch. Despite Setkus stopping what Groningen had to throw at him, the other news was that Duplan got a yellow card, ruling him out of next week’s game at PSV Eindhoven.
