This was a match that neither side dared to lose, both battling to remain in the Eredivisie after a dismal campaign so far. This was also one hell of a game for ADO’s new head coach Alfons Groenendijk to be in charge of first time out, and it turned out to be a real nightmare for him and the fans.
A 3-1 defeat and a red card for the keeper, Ernesto Setkus saw ADO fall to the bottom of the Eredivisie table. A real disaster in Deventer.
ADO were 1-0 down at the break. Sam Hendriks, who was a thorn to ADO all night got his first goal in the thirty eighth minute. ADO not doing much in the attacking areas of the pitch.
Second half saw ADO collapse. An early chance for Havenaar, but after that it was the home side who searched out the extra goal. In the fifty seventh minute Hendriks got his second, after beating the ADO defence and putting the ball into the far corner, 2-0.
With fifteen minutes remaining, it went from bad to worse for ADO. Setkus pulled down Hendriks, preventing the striker getting his hat-trick. A read card shown, and since ADO gad already made all their substitutions, it was Dion Malone who took the gloves for the remainder of the game.
In the eighty sixth minute, ADO were awarded a penalty after a foul on Tommie Beugelsdijk. Nasser El Khayati calmly putting the spot kick away beyond the keeper, 2-1.
Was there to be a dramatic come back? No. In the final minute Marcel Ritzmaier got the Eagles third goal with a wonderful lob, 3-1.
It doesn’t get any easier for ADO either. Next game is at home to league leaders Feyenoord next Sunday at 16:45. A club card is Need for this game.
