Sorry for basic report, I was not at the game, so information came from watching highlights on television.
After a run of five straight defeats, ADO Den Haag played at Roda JC on Saturday night, a team that has been really struggling so far this season. So after the squad were called in for double training on Wednesday, it was hoped ADO could back to winning ways and the were so close.
With many enforced injuries, ADO had a different look about them and Roda took advantage of it. Threatening early on, Ernesto Setkus in the ADO goal was magnificent, preventing two early chances.
ADO finally started to threaten on the half hour. Mike Havenaar going close as a shot just went wide of the upright. The game was messy and it was Setkus making saves and Havenaar missing chances that were the highlights. The striker was having a better game than of late, he has taken much criticism in the press and from fans, but he was getting in the right places.
In the thirty eighth minute ADO got themselves in front. Sheraldo Becker cut inside and forced the Roda keeper into a good save, the rebound came out quick to Edouard Duplan, who controlled his first time shot superbly as it hit the back of the net.
The second half saw ADO in more control of the game. Again ADO had chances to kill this game off. Havenaar forcing their keeper into one great save and Danny Bakker missing a virtual open goal after a cross by Tommie Beugelsdijk.
ADO were looking good as the clock ticked down. With four minutes remaining, Roda were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area after a foul by Thomas Meissner. Mitchell Paulissen lined up and struck an arrow like shot right into the corner, giving ADO man of the match no chance, 1-1.
Almost three points, but the point they earned ended their run of five straight defeats. Setkus had his best game in an ADO shirt and Havenaar was back hunting for goals, just wasn’t his night, another time could have grabbed a hat-trick.
Huge thanks to Marc of ADOfans.nl for the great photos.
