Friday night saw ADO Den Haag play their final game of 2017, a home game against PEC Zwolle. Despite the defeat and frustrations at PSV last weekend, everyone felt confident before the game against a team that has been playing well so far this season.
There was a great atmosphere in the Cars Jeans stadium that matched the festive season. It was the visitors who started fast and could have been in front within two minutes. Kingsley Ehizibue forcing Robert Zwinkels into a good save.
ADO took over after the early scare, plenty of movement down both wings saw chances created, yet despite the good chances, Sheraldo Becker, Bjørn Johnsen and Erik Falkenburg couldn’t get a clean effort on goal, the PEC keeper, .Diederik Boer being kept busy.
ADO were well in control, so much so that the PEC keeper was happy to waste plenty of time with the ball at his feet. Considering they were flying high in the league, it seemed odd that they would sit back so much. Their lack of attacking ideas soon betrayed them. In the twenty third minute, a corner from Nasser El Khayati found the head of Falkenburg, who buried the header into the net, unmarked and well placed, 1-0.
ADO were given a fright shortly after, a lobbed effort beat Zwinkels, only for Tyronne Ebuehi to race back to clear the danger. ADO were still dominant and with a minute remaining of the half, ADO struck again. A free-kick taken by El Khayati towards the near post was met by the head of Johnsen, 2-0. THe crowd went wild, this was far better than anyone dreamed of before the start.
The start of the second half was the same as the first, the visitors going close within ninety seconds. After that PEC Zwolle seemed to lose interest in the game, ADO simply overran them. After fifty two minutes Becker and Johnsen worked a simple one-two, the bal then fed across to an unmarked Falkenburg to have the easiest task of putting the ball into the net, 3-0.
That was the end of PEC. ADO were doing the party tricks, the fans giving the players Olés. ADO kept possession brilliantly. It was great viewing as ADO just kept on attacking. A fourth goal came in the sixty second minute. Great work down the right wing saw Ebuehi cross the ball for Johnsen to finish off a good move, 4-0.
The visitors looked exhausted, lacking ideas and seemed to just want to go home. The home fans were loving it. The crowd got louder and louder until the final whistle. 4-0 was a great win, but actually could have been much more. The crowd chanted that the club would be in Europe next season, and on this form, why not? A great night for the club and fans.
