On a wet and freezing in the Cars Jeans stadium, ADO Den Haag hosted Roda JC from Kerkrade. After the great 2-3 win at FC Twente last weekend, ADO were hoping to get another three points to ensure remaining in eighth spot in the league.
The 5,600 hardy spectators who turned up were to witness a great entertaining game of football. The visitors began strongest, a few early scares for ADO, but Roda eventually took the lead in the sixth minute. Again a ball into the area split ADO’s defence, making it easy for Dani Schahin to put the ball in the back of the net, 0-1.
ADO were not behind for long. Fourteen minutes played when Sheraldo Becker raced down the left wing. His cross towards the penalty was perfectly weighted, allowing Lex Immers to come in a finish with a stylish volley into the goal, 1-1.
The game was very much equal, ADO creating the clearer chances, but just couldn’t manage to get in front. THe game changed in the thirty ninth minute. Aaron Meijers was harshly judged to have fouled goalscorer Schahin in the box. To everyone’s amazement referee Reinold Wiedemeijer pointed to the spot. The kick was calmly converted by Simon Gustafson, 1-2.
The second half saw ADO bring on Tommie Beugelsdijk. Maybe it was the team talk, or the lead by example attitude of Beugelsdijk, but ADO were a real powerhouse in the next forty five minutes.
Becker was doing wonders down the wings, in the middle, Immers was flying about, chasing every lost cause. Bjorn Johnsen was being the perfect target man, his best show in an ADO shirt. ADO’s play was rewarded in the sixty eighth minute. A solid challenge inside the Roda area saw the ball roll outside the box, Immers came in and his low shot hit the back of the net, just inside the right hand post, 2-2.
The crowd looked back to last weekend’s 2-3 win at Twente and dreamt of a similar outcome. The dream came true, in the seventy fourth minute a cross from Becker found the head of Erik Falkenburg. The ball beating the keeper and the stadium erupted, 3-2.
The ball was end to end as Roda fought for an equaliser. They almost got it in the eighty first minute, Schahin being unlucky. ADO began to slow the game down and hold on for the victory. Two games in a row ending 3-2 in ADO’s favour, the fans of the club are loving it.
