On Sunday, ADO Den Haag fans traveled in large numbers to support their team in Rotterdam, as ADO took on Feyenoord in the Kuip. Sadly for the ADO fans the day didn’t go as they wished.
In the open period it was Feyenoord who were the most dangerous side, twice in the first ten minutes they saw efforts go just wide of the post and just over the bar. Feyenoord’s Nicolai Jørgensen being a real thorn in ADO’s side. After twenty five minutes, Jørgensen saw his strike hit the post.
ADO were no threat to the Feyenoord goal at all throughout the half, that was until the final seconds of the half. From a long ball, Bjørn Johnsen headed the ball on. The ball fell nicely for Sheraldo Becker, the goal at his mercy, but he got his legs in a tangle, ADO unlucky not to go in ahead.
The second half had more excitement to warm the hands of the cold supporters. After fifty five minutes Feyenoord broke the deadlock, a header from Tonny Trindade de Vilhena beating Robert Zwinkels at the far post, 1-0.
A minute later Zwinkels was at his best, pulling off a double save. ADO went further behind in the sixty eighth minute. Following a long corner, the ball fell to the feet of Steven Berghuis. He looked up and beautifully curled the ball into the top far corner passed the outstretched hands of ADO’s keeper, 2-0.
ADO heads did not drop, they soon pulled one back as Lex Immers drove a volley low into the Feyenoord net following a corner by Nasser El Khayati in the seventy first minute, 2-1.
ADO had their hosts on the back foot for a short period. They pressured down both wings and sent in cross after cross. Twice Becker had chances to put ADO level, good defending and goal keeping preventing the equaliser.
The game ended as a contest in the eightieth minute. Feyenoord broke quickly. Berghuis combined well with former ADO favourite Jens Toornstra, allowing the ex ADO man space in front of goal, firing hard into the back of the net, 3-1.
ADO had their moments, but a few simple errors cost them dearly. Next up for ADO is another away game at Heracles Almelo next Saturday night.
