On Friday night the ADO ladies team looked to make it three wins in a row as they took on Lierse SK from Belgium in the latest round of BeNe league matches.
The game was played in a strange atmosphere, due to the nuclear summit this week coming week, the stadium was being used a a holding point for police and security staff, so as you approached the stadium you’d have thought it was a high risk match of volatile supporters. The security meant the fans were all squeezed into one small in the centre of the main stand, killed any sort of atmosphere.
The game itself saw ADO in dominant form. Captain Lucienne Reichardt was leading by example, driving the team forward from the first whistle. Her no nonsense attitude saw ADO have early chances, Tessa Oudejans and Lineth Beerensteyn having opportunities.
Lierse offered nothing in the opening fifteen minutes as they found it difficult to cope with the ADO forwards and wingers. It took almost twenty minutes before the visitors had a sight of goal, when they did Barbara Lorsheyd saved well from Silke Leynen.
It was quite surprising that the teams went into the half time break at 0-0. ADO had two more great chances, Reichardt going close before Liseanne Grimberg had a shot superbly saved by Dorien Peters in the Lierse goal.
The second half saw ADO come out flying and the forwards really pushed up fast and forward, so much so that the left and right backs were becoming wing backs, helping to put pressure on the Belgians.
ADO went close again on a couple of occasions before eventually getting the goal their play had deserved. In the fifty fourth minute Vesna Veltrop was fouled in the penalty area. Grimberg calmly struck the ball into the back of the net, 1-0.
Three minutes later, manager Sarina Wiegman made a substitution that changed the game. Renate Jansen replacing Veltrop. From the moment Jansen was in the pitch Lierse could not cope with her at all. She was bombing down the left wing, cutting inside to make crosses and laying on chances for others.
On the hour mark Jansen was in a one on one with the Lierse keeper, the ADO striker kept her cool and slotted the ball neatly into the corner, giving Peters no chance, 2-0.
ADO were soon having chance after chance, Beerensteyn and Jansen coming so close to extending the lead. In the mean time Lierse threatened again only once, just to keep Lorsheyd from falling asleep, one of her easiest games this season.
ADO got their third and final goal in the final minute of the game: Yet again it was Jansen who put the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0.
At the final whistle I think the Lierse players were happy for the game to be over. It was a comfortable win for the home side. Jansen only played for just over half an hour and in that time she could have easily score four or five goals, inspirational change by Wiegman.
So that is three wins in a row, scoring eleven and conceding zero, ADO ladies certainly coming back into top form and full of confidence.
