ADO ladies v Oud-Heverlee Leuven

After the shock defeat away to Club Brugge last week, ADO ladies returned to take on their fourth Belgian opposition in a row, this time facing Oud-Heverlee Leuven. A team ADO had never played before in the BeNe league.

The location for this game was changed to the home of Quick on the other side of the city. This was due to the pitch at the Kyocera stadium being effected badly by the recent heavy rains, so to preserve the pitch for the men’s game on the Saturday night, it was decided to relocate the ladies match.

The ADO squad warmed up in what was for them an unusual kit of red. This was done in support of the Red Dress Day campaign on 29th September that highlights the problem of heart disease in women, the world’s biggest killer of women and mostly goes unchecked.

ADO started well and in Renate Jansen, who was again on fire in the opening period, they had someone who the visitors feared. They stood off her and allowed her to run with wings with ease.  It was in the tenth minute that Leuven’s failure to deal with Jansen cost them dearly. The forward collected the ball from Yvette van der Veen, she than ran towards goal twisting the defender into knots. On the edge of the area she shot across the keeper into the back of the net, 1-0.

ADO doubled their lead in the twenty first minute. The ball came across the pitch, Jansen did not hesitate and let fly with a real screamer of a shot that almost broke the net. A truly thunderous goal that gave the keeper no chance what so ever, 2-0.

ADO went in at half time looking good for their lead. Leuven reduced to taking long range shots that gave Barbara Lorsheyd in the ADO goal no problems.

The visitors started brightly in the second half. Twice Lorsheyd was called into action to preserve the two goal margin. The first save being an exceptional save in another one on one situation. This seems to be happening every game this season, and only once has the ADO keeper been beaten in that situation; surely it can’t be long before she gets the call up to the international squad.

ADO sealed the win in the sixty third minute. A corner on the left by Marleen Joore was placed into the penalty spot area where the late arriving Paola van der Veen powered home a header into the back of the net. Paola who only just retuned as a substitute last weekend after a five and a half month injury lay off with injury screamed her delight and punched the air as the relief of playing again was all too evident, 3-0.

In the closing stages Leuven almost got a goal back, a super long range effort hitting the cross bar with Lorsheyd beaten. That was the end of the action. ADO ladies claiming three points and keeping their first clean sheet of the season.
