For their first match of the new BeNe league campaign the ADO ladies team traveled to Brussels to take on RSC Anderlecht, this was on paper to be a hard opening game for our ladies and it proved to be awkward more than difficult.
The atmosphere was amazing as the Anderlecht side had a following from the mens team that sang for every minute of the game and where banging drums and lighting numerous flares, to the extent that at times you could not see across the width of the pitch.
ADO began the game without some regular first teamers, long term Marelle Worm and Paola van der Veen, plus Lineth Beerensteyn with her arm in a sling and Kitty Susan suspended for collecting too many yellow cards last season.
The Game was not great, for the first forty minutes there was not a single shot on goal, both sides cancelling each other out.
With five minutes remaining of the first half ADO blitzed Anderlecht, first a stunning drive from Lisanne Grimberg flew into the back of the net from a wide position, 0-1. Two minutes later ADO went on the attack and another great powerful shot, this time from Tessa Oudejans rocketed into the back of the net, 0-2.
After the break the home side were instantly on the attack, pushing ADO deep into their own half and that early pressure worked. In the forty seventh minute a fierce shot by Yasmina Benabid beat Barbara Lorsheyd for pace and hit the back of the net, 1-2.
Anderlecht were playing better in the the thick smoke created by their fans pyrotechnics, yet it was the visitors who struck again in the fifty fifth minute. A strong run by Renate Jansen down the right wing lead to her hitting a deep cross over the penalty area. Michelle Vrieling looked up and placed the ball inch perfect onto the head of the forward running Grimberg who buried her header into the back of the goal, 1-3.
ADO had to hold on for a few short periods, Lorsheyd having to make a couple of vital saves to keep the hosts from getting themselves back into the game.
ADO need not have worried, in the eightieth minute there was some confusion in the home sides defence, the error was latched onto by Oudejans who calmly rounded the keeper before stroking the ball home, 1-4.
Hat was the first win on the first day of the new season. Four goals away fom home and two of the new players get two each. This season looks like it is going to be something special for the ADO ladies!
ADO ladies player of the match: Lisanne Grimberg; so strong and powerful, great display of the forwards art.
